5 Easy Steps to a Healthier Life

1 - Increase Water

When we are first born our bodies are made up of over 90% water. As we grow that percentage lowers. It is important for optimal health to keep the body hydrated. Water is in our skin, muscles, organs and every cell in our body. When we become thirsty, it is not just our mouth that wants a drink, every cell in our body needs a drink. Do your body and favor and drink lots of water.

2 - Decrease Sugar and Fats

Chocolate cake, ice cream and pumpkin pie and any other goodie you want to put into this category should be left for special occasions or very occasional eating. I have a trick that I use for my chocolate habit. When I am stressed, which by the way is about once a month, I have horrific cravings for chocolate. This is when I purchase everything chocolate. Every meal replacement drink or bar that I can find, I buy. I eat and drink chocolate a lot over a couple of days and my chocolate craving is satisfied, it gets me though my stress and I’m still smiling.

3 - Increase Cardio

Cardiovascular workouts means participating in some form of exercise that makes our heart beat faster. Walking, jogging, dancing or any whole body movement. Our bodies are designed to move. Society, especially in North America, we have designed our lives to be either in front of the TV, behind the desk or behind a steering wheel. It is important for our bodies to bend and move. Health Canada and the American Heart Association encourages people to integrate physical activity into their every day life. I say find a sport that you love. What did you really enjoy when you were a kid? Is it possible to get involved in that activity again? What sport do you enjoy? Find it and do it. Your body will thank you.

4 - Increase Weights
What I mean by this is to increase the amount of weight that we can lift, haul, and carry. As I mentioned earlier our society makes us sit behind desks and steering wheels, we rarely have to lift anything. The heaviest objects I lift on a regular basis are my kids and the groceries. I exercise and participate in sports so I can continue to do these things. As the old saying goes, if you don’t use it you will lose it. This is very true when it comes to muscular strength.

5 - Increase Love and Laughter
Here is the mushy part of my rant. With out love and laughter, life would be dull and probably unbearable. Lucky for me I have a wonderful supportive husband, two great kids, caring friends and wonderful neighbors. Life is good. Next time you see someone, try to be positive. Tell a joke or let her know how much you appreciate her.
